
International Fair
A favorite amongst teachers, students and families, the International Fair is a spectacular event. Each class adopt a specific country near the beginning of the school year. Throughout the year teachers integrate learning about the country and its culture into all subjects so that each class can accurately represent their country both in their classroom as well as in a stage presentation on the night of our largest school event.

S.T.E.A.M. Fair
Incorporating elements from Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math; this school-wide event features age-appropriate Science projects and demonstrations.

Zero Hour
Zero hour gives our students in Secondary the opportunity to receive tutoring one hour before school begins four days a week. Secondary students can arrive early to campus where teachers are available for additional support. Students can also take this time for group projects and independent studies.

Storybook Character Day
The culmination of our “I love to read month”, students and teachers dress-up as their favorite character in a book and compete for prizes.

ELD - English Language Development
RIS offers support classes that are designed to help new students make rapid progress in the English language. The focus of these classes are on four key language skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking – with additional work on vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation.

Technology
Starting in Pre-school RIS students learn basic computer skills throughout their week. Students from 3rd grade onwards bring their own computers to class that become their study and project tools. This fits with our philosophy of being purposely academic and also prepares them for the ever- changing technological world.

College & Career
With College and Career planning, RIS supports its students in two different ways. Under the guidance of the Student Coordinator, Secondary students attend weekly meetings where they are advised and supported by proven techniques via a step-by-step process. Students search for colleges and apply to institutions that match their academic profiles and career goals. Students are also provided assistance with: - college transcripts - application essay writing - letters of recommendation - information regarding financial aid and scholarship opportunities The second way RIS supports their students is that of a required College and Career class taken during the 11th grade year.

Economics & Personal Finance
Financial planning is not just about money, it’s about developing a lifelong skill. With this class, RIS students create a strong foundation in economics and personal finance to function effectively as consumers, workers, savers, investors, entrepreneurs, and active citizens.

Social emotional learning
SEL is the process of developing self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success. This subject is integrated into the RIS curriculum in the Primary School where its content is specially prepared by academic coordination together with teachers, always adjusting the content, according to current techniques, practices and results.

Speech Therapy
RIS Speech Therapy program provides special needs children to continue to benefit from the whole-classroom experience while still improving communication skills and includes:
- Supporting students in developing their capabilities in receptive language, expressive language, pragmatic language, play skills, literacy and phonological skills, peech fluency and articulation.
- Model correct sounds and syllabes.
- Help students to understand the others and share their thoughts and ideas.
AP

M.A.P testing
Standardized M.A.P testing is held 2 times per year for students in grades 1st – 12th. M.A.P. or Measures of Academic Progress is a computerized adaptive test administered by NWEA which helps teachers, parents and administrators improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote academic growth.

Research
RIS offers Research, an interdisciplinary course that encourages students to demonstrate critical thinking and academic research skills on a topic of the student’s choosing. Secondary students will conduct independent research, analyze sources and evidence, apply context and perspective and present their research findings to their peers.

French
French language classes are offered to Primary and Middle School students as a required class but as an elective option for Secondary students in grades 9th – 12th.

Parent info Night
A collaboration between RIS teachers, parents and student is vital to the learning process. These conferences aim to create dialogue, methods and partnership in order to increase effective learning.

Art
Art provides mental, emotional and educational benefits, like:
- Enhancing creativity.
- Improving language and reading skills.
- Strengthens critical thinking skills.
- Builds confidence and self-respect.
- Creates cultural and personal connections.
Arts is offered for Pre-School, Kindergarten and Primary classes once a week per grade and for Secondary students as an elective choice.

Music
Music provides mental, emotional and educational benefits, like:

- Teaches discipline.
- Supports muscle development and motor skills.
- Promotes emotional development.
- Enhances auditory skills.
- Improves creative thinking.
- Develops teamwork spirit.
- Helps kids understand culture.

Health
RIS Health class is a required elective for our Secondary students. Typically taken in 10th grade our health class covers topics like: the impact of healthy and poor nutritional choices, the effects of tobacco, alcohol, inhalants, and other drug use, strategies to reduce and prevent violence, administration of emergency care, recognition of tendencies toward self-harm, and among other topics the impact of technology on the health status of individuals, families, communities and the world.

Journalism
Journalism is a elective class for our Secondary Students that accurately simulates a work environment – because it is one. This class teaches students higher level analytical thinking skills, prepares them to deal with stress, gives them opportunities to work as a team, meet deadlines, problem solve, write, shoot and edit. With an emphasis on the ethical and legal responsibilities of communicating in a digital world, Journalism helps students to discern the appropriate time and place for technology.

After School Activities
Athletic training develops a sense of friendliness in competition, develops team spirit, and amongst other things builds up mental and physical toughness.
RIS offers after school programs in several areas, like:
- Soccer
- Judo
- Muay Thai
- Parkour
- Ballet
- Tennis
The activities run from 3:30 to 4:15 pm.

Career Week
RIS hosts a series of guests, and primary students spend this week learning about different career paths.

Students participate in a variety of activities, projects, and competitions designed to foster to a healthy, active lifestyle.

Students participate in school-wide activities and competitions to celebrate the end of “Fitness is Fun Month.”

AP- Advanced Placement Program - An upgrade in school life
Advanced Placement (AP) is an academic program that challenges high school students to take university-level courses as a part of their academic schedules. Students select courses in their areas of interest or in the areas in which they would like a more rigorous study experience. AP courses are designed to cover more content and to cover content more intensely than standard classes. Students who take AP courses are better prepared for the pressures of university, and students may even earn college credits by scoring well on AP exams. AP classes at RIS are audited and approved by the College Board annually.

PSAT
Tenth and Eleventh grade students take a practice SAT test (an US-based university placement tool) to check their progress against international standards, to prepare them for future high-stakes testing, and to evaluate AP readiness.

Student Progress Conferences
Parents and students meet with teachers to discuss student growth and progress.

I love to read month
The whole month of October is dedicated to reading in any language. RIS students compete to log the most reading minutes and books read.
