The Advanced Placement (AP) Program is a cooperative educational endeavor between Secondary schools and colleges/universities throughout the world. Outside of the United States, universities in more than 40 countries recognize AP in their admissions process. Qualified students prepare to take AP examinations at the end of the school year for an additional fee, which is set by the College Board. Colleges and universities are then able to grant credit, advanced placement, or both to students earning a passing score on AP exams.
RIS offers several AP classes for our students and also for students from other institutions who wish to receive the AP degree. These classes carry a weighted GPA and are audited and approved by the College Board annually.
Enrollment into the AP program is based on the motivation, academic ability and career direction. Students select courses in their areas of interest or in the areas in which they would like a more rigorous study experience. AP courses are designed to cover more content and to cover content more intensely than standard classes.
